International Business Machines pushes for transparent development in enterprise AI

At the technology summit, IBM's Cox presented a persuasive argument for collaborative development in corporate artificial intelligence. The executive, Vice President of machine learning frameworks and leader at the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, emphasized the importance of transparency in tech progress, especially in the present AI landscape.
Cox highlighted the nuanced nature of openness in AI, challenging the binary view of the principle. He observed the burgeoning community of accessible frameworks from diverse origins, including technology corporations, academic institutions, and nation-states.
However, he articulated reservations about the nature of transparency in many Large Language Models, pointing out that certain models offer barely more than a "bag of numbers" without openness in their development processes.
